We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team and take ownership of the platform capabilities that enable software teams to build, deploy and operate reliable applications at scale.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who is equally comfortable working with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, automation and production systems, while also thinking about how to make infrastructure simpler and more accessible for other engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build and operate scalable cloud platforms, primarily across AWS.
- Build and manage Kubernetes platforms and containerised workloads.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Build reusable infrastructure modules, tooling and platform components.
- Design self-service capabilities that allow engineering teams to provision and deploy infrastructure without unnecessary platform-team dependency.
- Build and improve CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
- Develop internal developer tooling and automation to improve engineering productivity.
- Establish secure and reliable deployment patterns, including automated rollbacks and release controls.
- Implement and improve monitoring, logging, tracing and observability.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues across cloud, Kubernetes, Linux, networking and applications.
- Improve platform reliability, scalability, security and cost efficiency.
- Establish engineering standards and reusable patterns across infrastructure and deployment.
- Work closely with Software Engineering, Security, Data and Product teams.
- Participate in production support and on-call responsibilities.
- Automate repetitive operational work using Python, Go, Bash or similar languages.
- Take ownership of platform problems from design through implementation and ongoing operation.
What We're Looking For:
- 6+ years of experience across Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering.
- Strong hands-on AWS experience.
- Strong production Kubernetes experience — not just deploying applications to Kubernetes, but actually operating and troubleshooting clusters.
- Strong Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience.
- Strong CI/CD experience with tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or similar.
- Experience with GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux is highly valuable.
- Strong Docker and containerisation experience.
- Good Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of networking, IAM, security and cloud architecture.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry or similar.
- Strong scripting/programming ability in Python, Go, Bash or TypeScript.
- Experience building automation and reusable platform tooling.
- Experience working with engineering teams to improve developer experience.
- Strong production troubleshooting and incident-management experience.
- Comfortable taking technical ownership and making architectural decisions.
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience building or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform.
- Experience with Backstage or similar developer portals.
- Argo CD / Flux and GitOps.
- Helm.
- Kubernetes networking and security.
- Service mesh experience.
- Policy-as-code.
- Secrets management.
- Multi-account or multi-region AWS environments.
- Experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and cloud-managed databases.
- Experience with platform security and DevSecOps.
- Experience operating infrastructure at meaningful production scale.
What We Are Looking For In A Senior Engineer:
We are not looking for someone who simply maintains infrastructure or follows tickets.
The right person should be able to look at an engineering environment, identify where developers are losing time or where infrastructure creates operational risk, and then design and implement a better platform.
You should be comfortable asking:
- Can this be automated?
- Can developers self-serve this?
- Can we make this deployment safer?
- Can we remove this operational dependency?
- Can we make the platform more observable?
- Can we make this infrastructure easier to scale?
- Can we create a reusable solution instead of solving the same problem repeatedly?
Important:
This is a hands-on engineering position.
Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to basic AWS administration, monitoring, ticket-based support or maintaining existing CI/CD pipelines without meaningful platform ownership may not be suitable.
We are looking for someone who has built, operated, improved and owned production platforms.
What We Offer:
- UK-based opportunity.
- Remote/hybrid working depending on the organisation.
- Senior technical ownership.
- Opportunity to work with modern cloud-native technologies.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, AWS, Infrastructure as Code and developer platforms.
- Meaningful engineering and scalability challenges.
- Strong scope for technical growth and leadership.
If you are a Senior DevOps/SRE/Cloud Engineer who has moved beyond infrastructure operations and into platform engineering, developer enablement and technical ownership, we would be interested in hearing from you.
